In reality it was a dry-run in getting the new Laya Stadium on track in terms of logistics and the practicalities of the smooth running of a match day at the revamped stadium. But 7,000 Leinster fans turned up and it wasn't just to take in the new asthetics.
As a match it served a litany of purposes in rugby terms. The Lions and The Sharks await in the opening games of the United Rugby Championship (URC). Cardiff at the new stadium follow shortly after. And for the players used on the day - and there were plenty of them - it was useful to get a feel for the new dynamics. But more so to get game time and display their merits for future inclusion.
